In the heat of summer...

As the summer heat was beginning to takes its tole on all of us 2 friends and I decided to hit the road and travel north, mountain bound! Floyd Fest was our destination. As we loaded up the car, deprived of sleep, we left an hour after our ETD with smiles on our face and an appetite for adventure. Arriving on Wednesday afternoon and leaving Monday morning it is safe to say that we came back with our bellies full, our hearts lifted, and our bags full of art & music. It would take hours to touch on everything that we witnessed over those 6 days so i've compiled a list of some of the highlights! Glad to be back and ready to start working on some new UOA projects!
Flem Chen (pictured left) was a sight to be seen. A pyrotechnic theater troupe with a repertoire spanning over 12 years and 1,500 performances worldwide. I witnessed this group fly high above the crowd while a band preformed for the festival goers on one of the 6 stages. They showcased 4 different "sky" acts over the weekend and had flame throwing shows in the evenings. http://flamchen.com/

Tom Phelps Studio a talented family that is native to the Floyd area. Tom Phelps hand crafts pieces of pottery for the young at heart and the admirer of fine craftmanship. I began collecting his work a year ago after a fellow artist friend introduced me to his work. Always a treat to see what he has come up with! http://www.potterystuff.com/

Community Art Market
1/31/10

This past months market was a blast. We had 5 new artist show up and show new crafts and wares. The KiDs recycled art workshop was braved by some fearless kid crafters. The wind was kickin but we set them up in the sun and they went to town. I want to thank all who help with donations and time! We wouldn't be able to continue either event without you. The next market and workshop are scheduled for February 28th from 1-4p.m.
We have a few new exciting things going on over the next two months! The Art Can Help Benefit will take place on March 20th in Red Fern Village. Music and a silent auction will kick off @ Wake Up Coffee Co at 9am and finish at Bubba's Upstairs at 10pm. We will have a kids recycled art workshop tent set up for all the kiddies during the day and fun events all over Red Fern including Live music by The Cornpon Nation, Corneyed Trout, Honey Blue, Marshland Groove, and the talented sister act of Xada & Xan Nichols! It's a new year and so far so good. Last night Under the Oaks Art held an opening reception for the catalog at Wake Up Coffee Co. It was a great turn out and an awesome vibe. All the artist and crafters featured in the Jan/Feb catalog showed up with baked goods in hand to kick things off. Jared Kuykendall and Marc Andress played some sweet music to keep us movin'! Positive Vibrations Natural Dog Treats made some treats for people to take home to there best doggie pals and some kickin' spinach balls for the rest of us.
We are planning some pretty awesome fun stuff for the next couple of months, so please keep checking in!

Community Art Market @ Palm Coast
11/28/09

We had a great turn out for Novembers sunday market. I want to thank everyone who came out and supported us! Doralynn's art work set a great tone on Mallery st. after such a dreary weekend. We are sad to see Miss. Kay and Robbie Langley's art come off the walls at Palm Coast, but welcome Doralynn's work that will help remind us of summer's warm rays!
The KiDs Recycled Art workshop was full of imaginative repurposed art pieces that also added to the beauty of the day! With all the support for the KiDs free workshop, we have decided to add it to all of the Sunday markets.
I hope everyone is having an art-filled week so far. Check out www.50dollarlunch.com. for a mid- day art snack.
